New HD Camera

What with my recent push to try and find the best sponsorship, I decided to go ahead and buy a decent HD camcorder. This is so I can really start to get myself known on the web and arround the world.

The camera I was using before in all the YouTube videos was a Cannon IXUS SD630 still image cam in video mode, it wasn’t very good quality but it did make the colours pop. What really attracts me to a online video is if it is in HD, so I scoured the interweb is search of the best I could find on a budget. There were plenty of cheep HD cams that shot in 720p and some midrange ones that toyed with 1080 but none of them had a good image stabilisation nor lens quality and the test footage I found was not very impressive when moving around allot. So I went right to the top of the range and bought myself Canon HV20. It has rave reviews and most say it’s the best camera available to date, short of buying the professional range at $2000+ a piece.

Not wanting to pay full price (I will let you find that out) I waited on EBay for a couple of weeks until finally I found a decent second had one, that was rarely used. I watched the price increase and put my bid in with only 5 seconds to go. I won!

The cam arrived today and I am astounded at the picture quality, the HV20 uses mini DV which some of you may think is old technology but the digital tape actually produces uncompressed videos at much higher bitrates than AVHDC. Each 60 min tape stores 12GB of HD video, not bad for less than 2 quid a tape!

Stay tuned for some test footage.....
